Cheque Validation System - CPS/Validator
Cheque Validation System -  CPS/Validator™ is a system for validating  the form, the layout and the code line printing quality of bank and private  cheques.
  
Hellenic Bank Association - HBA  and European Central Bank have issued specifications on the form, the  layout and the code line printing quality of cheques that are drown in EURO - €  currency.
Operations departments of banks that  permit qualified customers to print in house their own private cheques using  account numbers and cheque numbers given by the bank, can use CPS/Validator in order to  validate the compliance of these cheques with HBA, ECB and  Euro-cheque specifications.
  
The system can be use also in cases  where the bank has outsourced cheque book printing to a printing house.  In this case the bank will use the system for sampling check over the printing  house production.
The system consists of a document  scanner and the accompanied software application.

Checks & Results
Cheque Validation System R 2.50.xx
  • Checks   
    • Code line position
Start of the code line at the x,y point according to  the standard.
    • Code line length and height
Length and height of the code line  according to the font and the font points specified by the standard (OCRB,  10cpi).
    • Code line reading
Reading - transformation of the code line  to electronic text assuming that OCRB font has been used.
    • Code line number of characters
Calculation of the number of code line  characters and comparison with the min and max number of characters defined in  the standard.
    • Code line analysis and check digit  calculation
Analysis of the code line to the  corresponding five fields, recalculation of the check digits according to the  standard and comparison of the check digits values with the ones that are  included in the code line.
  • Results
    • Pass
All check results performed are compliant with the  standard.
    • Fail
At least one check result is not  compliant with the standard In this case, the reason of failure appears to the  user.

    • Code line position
Start of the code line at the x,y point according to  the standard. E

Length and height of the code line  according to the font and the font points specified by the standard (OCRB,  10cpi). E

Device hardware configuration and  firmware parameters check for OCRB characters recognition operation.  E
    • Code line quality checks
Recognition from the device of the the existence of a  code-line. E
Identification from the device of all characters of the  code-line. E
Calculation of the number of code line  characters and comparison with the min and max number of characters defined in  the standard. E
Count the number of ">" character in the code-line. E
Count the number of "<" character in the code-line. E
Identify the number of fields in the  code-line. E
    • Format check of each of the five fields in the  code-line.
  • Fifth field (cheque type) checks
    • All fifth field characters have been recognized. E
    • The first character of the fifth field is ‘+’. E
    • All characters, except the first one, are numeric. W
    • The value of the character in position 70  is one of those defined in the standard (1 or 9). E
  • Fourth field (IBAN) checks
    • All IBAN characters have been recognized. E
    • The number of IBAN characters is according to the  standard. E
    • The first two IBAN characters are letters. E
    • The first two IBAN characters are  ‘GR’. W
    • The issuing branch number is according to  the standard (4 numeric characters). E
    • The issuing bank number is according to  the standard (3 numeric characters). E
    • The account number s according to the standard (16  characters). E
    • Recalculation of the check digits according to the  standard and comparison of the check digits values with the ones that are  included in the IBAN. E
  • Third field (cheque date)  checks
    • All third field characters have been  recognized. E
    • All characters (6 numeric characters) of  the third field are numeric and according to the standard. E
    • The code-line of a bank or cashier's or  manager's cheque has the third filed empty. W
    • The code-line of a private cheque has the  third field filled. W
  • Second field (cheque number)  checks
    • All characters (9 numeric characters) of  the second field are numeric and according to the standard. E
    • The cheque number check digit (the ninth  character) has been calculated correctly. E
    • The opening character of the second field  ("+") is missing, misprinted, or spaces cut in between this character and the  ending character of the first field.  W
  • First field (cheque amount)  checks
    • All characters of the first field are  numeric. E
    • The code-line of a bank or cashier's or  manager's cheque has the first filed empty. W
    • The code-line of a private cheque has the  first field filled. W
  • Results
    • Pass: If all results on checks are  positive then the cheque is compliant with the standard. If all results on  checks defined as Errors are positive and any result on checks defined as  Warming is negative then the cheque is compliant with the standard and  the corresponding Warning message appears to the user.
    • Fail: If at least one result on  checks defined as Errors is negative then the cheque is not compliant  with the standard. In this case the corresponding Error - reason of failure  appears to the user.

Technical Specification
Reading
  • OCR Types: OCRA  and OCRB.
  • MICR Types:  CMC7 and E13B.  
  • Multiple  Reading: Maximum reading resolution: 1 character per 4mm. Multiple OCR/ICR  decoding areas (up to 5) on the image document.
Image  capture
  • Color, gray  scale with 16 or 256 shades of gray or B/W.
  • Image  resolution: from 100 to 200 dpi.
  • Front and back  document images in one pass.  
  • Up to 4 images  - front & back “brutto” (neutral images) and front & back “netto” (red  dropout images for OCR/ICR machine and hand print decoding requirements) in one  pass.  
  • Drive of  cheque scanners with proprietary device drivers from different manufactures such  as CTS, Rototype, Buic and any other upon request.
  • Drive of  any TWAIN compatible cheque scanner.   
Options
  • Front or rear  document stamp (fixed text and logos).
  • Rear high  definition ink jet printer for variable document endorsing (variable text).  Adjustable height: 2 positions.
Software  application  
  • Management and  validation software application from the iRecognIzer™ family. iRecognIzer/Validator™ is included in each Cheque Validation  Station.
  • HBA, ECB and  Euro-cheque code line specifications support. Other code line formats  customizable upon request.
